Feeding

On some printers, TheMagicTouch transfer paper can be used stack feeding. On some printers it is better to use single sheet feeding, to avoid paper jams. Depending on which tray you select the paper pick up can be different. The Multipurpose tray is not always the best way to feed your paper. The paper thickness and the coating sometimes will force you to use another tray.

Paper Path

For TheMagicTouch transfer media it is best that the paper runs through the printer in a straight/smooth path. Meaning the paper gets through the printer making the least corners possible and avoid sharp corners. This is to avoid scratches or tram lines on the coating. After fusing when the coating and toner are still soft take the quickest exit. Avoid any sharp bents or transport rollers.

Image quality

In a dry toner printer the image is created by static electricity. It is important that the printer is plugged in the mains in the correct way. Also, the paper needs to be dry. If the paper has a humidity level that is too high, it will affect your image quality. The state of maintenance of the printer will also affect your image quality. Old drums and contaminated sensors will have a negative effect on a print on transfer paper sooner than they will on a print on plain paper.

Fusing

The most important part from your printer is the fuser unit. This is where the toner is melted onto your paper. This is also the area where most paper jams occur, mostly because the operator did not select the correct settings in the printer driver. But sometimes the fuser is not good enough to fuse the toner on transfer paper. Meaning; the temperature is too hot or too cold or the pressure between the fuser roll/belt is too high or too low.

Driver settings

An especially crucial step in the printing process is to select the correct setting in the printer driver. If the operator does not select the correct settings, the transfer paper can jam, and/or your image quality will not be satisfying. The driver setting determines how fast and on what temperature the fuser must work and how much static charge the drum and the belt must use. The driver works with preset settings. The operator needs to select the correct presets which suites the transfer paper the best for printing. This can be a different setting for different transfer papers. And when the printer gets older the settings can change due to contamination of the sensors.

But it is important you do your own testing as well. The specific install and setup of your printer can influence the performance of the printer, or the manufacturer may have done some modifications or updates on the printer since we tested it.
